Psychologist (Supervised Practice)
Languages: English, Russian, Kazakh
Laura Kassymova is a thoughtful and dedicated psychologist in supervised practice who provides therapy to adults and couples seeking meaningful growth, improved relationships, and emotional wellness. With over seven years of experience in mental health, education, and psychological research, Laura brings both clinical depth and cultural richness to her work. Her style is calm, diplomatic, and emotionally present—qualities that help clients feel safe exploring even the most sensitive aspects of their lives.
Laura holds a Ph.D. in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Social Sciences. She is a registered member of the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario (CPBAO) in supervised practice and a member of the Ontario Psychological Association. Prior to practicing in Canada, she served as a senior lecturer at Karaganda State University, teaching general psychology, the psychology of influence, and interpersonal conflict resolution. She has also conducted cross-cultural research on prejudice, social values, and identity.
At Toronto Psychological Services & Research Centre (TPSRC), Laura provides supervised therapy to adults and couples. Her clinical focus includes anxiety, depression, trauma, bipolar disorder, OCD, and substance use, as well as self-development and identity work. She has a special interest in sex and intimacy-related issues, communication repair, and navigating parenting or partnership strain. Her therapeutic modalities include cognitive-behavioural therapy, exposure-based interventions, mindfulness and acceptance-based therapies, emotion-focused couples therapy, and solution-focused strategies.
Laura is multilingual and brings a global lens to her therapeutic work. While English is not her first language, clients who value presence, warmth, and deep reflective listening consistently describe her as a source of grounded and nonjudgmental support. Her calm demeanour and well-informed insights help clients slow down, reflect, and move forward with greater clarity.
Clients often describe Laura as warm, emotionally attuned, and deeply respectful—a therapist who brings both insight and care to every conversation. She is passionate about reducing stigma, strengthening relational health, and helping individuals connect more deeply with themselves and others. Ghia Townsend, MSc. C. Psych. PsyD., supervises Laura’s clinical practice at TPSRC until she completes her registration for autonomous practice as a psychologist with the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario (CPBAO).
