Who We Are
Toronto Psychological Services & Research Centre’s staff members are a diverse team of Psychologists, Psychological Associates, Clinical Therapists and Assessment Consultants. We are highly trained and qualified Scholar Practitioners. We integrate evidence-based research findings with our assessment and treatment of clients presenting with various clinical and counselling concerns.
Toronto Psychological Services & Research Centre’s staff are Registered Members of the College of Psychologists of Ontario (www.cpo.on.ca) or are supervised by a Registered member of the College of Psychologists of Ontario. Therefore, all services provided by TPS staff are usually covered by clients’ extended workplace benefits/insurance.
Toronto Psychological Services & Research Centre’s staff provide specialized services. That is, each Clinical Therapist and Assessment Consultant works exclusively with children aged 2- to 12-year-old, adolescent aged 13- to 17-year-old adults 18+, couples, families and or groups. TPS provides quality services to our clients. We ensure that each Clinical Therapist and Assessment Consultant has the necessary skills, training, and expertise to work competently with their clients.
Our Theoretical orientation
Toronto Psychological Services & Research Centre specializes in evidence based counselling and assessment services. Clinicians are primarily trained within the Cognitive Behavioural Theoretical orientation. Accordingly, Clinical Therapists utilize Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, and Exposure Therapies.
Notwithstanding, our clinical work is dependent upon the needs of individual clients because we recognize that no single clinical theory or approach is comprehensive enough to account for the complexities of human behaviour. Therefore, we cater to the unique needs of our clients by tailoring an evidence-based treatment plan to each client and delivering our services within a collaborative and person-centred therapeutic relationship. This approach works very well, especially for clients who are keen on having a structured therapy approach based on research evidence, while also ensuring that they feel safe and comfortable with their Therapist.
Our Philosophy
Toronto Psychological Services & Research Centre deeply values, respects and embraces diversity. We do not discriminate against any staff or client based on culture, race, religious affiliation, sexual identity and orientation, age, gender, disability or other bases. TPS is also a safe space for our lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, non-binary, and intersex clients or staff members.
Toronto Psychological Services & Research Centre is primarily concerned about how the world appears from the subjective viewpoint of our clients, whether they are very young or more mature. We hold positive beliefs about people, seeing them as trustworthy, capable, dependable and friendly.
We have a positive view of ourselves and have confidence in our ability to provide our clients with caring, competent, professional services. We understand that it takes courage and commitment on the part of our clients to seek personal change. Importantly, we know, without reservation, that our clients have the potential for change and growth. Therefore, Toronto Psychological Services & Research Centre provides a safe, confidential, nonjudgmental, and unconditionally accepting environment for all clients to explore their strengths and limitations.
