Sharon completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology at the University of Toronto (UofT), her Diploma in Child Studies at the Institute of Child Study (UofT), and her Master of Psychology degree at the Adler Graduate Professional School (AGPS). She is currently completing her doctoral degree in Counseling Psychology (EdD), in the School Psychology field, at the University of Toronto/Ontario Institute of Studies in Education (UofT/OISE) with competency in school and clinical psychology.
Sharon has extensive experience working with children, adolescents, and families facing academic, neurodevelopmental, mental health, and interpersonal challenges. She has worked in various clinical roles, including private practice, social service agencies, the Toronto French School (TFS), and the Toronto District School Board (TDSB). Sharon has also consulted with parents, teachers, and support staff, individually, and as part of school support team meetings. Relatedly, she has provided targeted and individualized recommendations and strategies to advance students’ growth and development within these contexts. Sharon is compassionate and sensitive, and strives to meet the needs of her clients through a collaborative and supportive client-centred approach.
Currently, Sharon is an integral member of Toronto Psychological Services & Research Centre’s (TPS) clinical team, conducting assessments and providing therapeutic intervention to individual children, adolescents, and their families. She is passionate about prioritizing her clients’ needs and facilitating their ability to overcome challenges. Her warmth, sensitivity, and compassion contribute to her ability to engage the most sensitive of clients. She specializes in academic and socioemotional issues with children and adolescents. More specifically, she is adept at supporting clients struggling with anxiety, depression, ADHD, ASD, OCD, and interpersonal challenges. Her primary therapeutic approaches include cognitive behavioural therapy, cognitive behavioural play therapy, solution-focused therapy, interpersonal psychotherapy, and mindfulness-based approaches. Sharon’s ability to establish a secure therapeutic alliance, marked by compassion and sensitivity, and create a safe supportive environment, enables her clients to accomplish their goals.
Registered Psychologist Ghia Townsend, MSc. C. Psych currently supervises Sharon’s clinical practice at TPS until she completes her year of supervised practice for registration as a Psychological Associate with the College of Psychologists of Ontario.
