Sharon Anisman is an exceptionally effective therapist and assessor known for her intuitive ability to connect with children, adolescents, and their parents. At Toronto Psychological Services & Research Centre (TPSRC), parents who have consulted with Sharon consistently choose to continue working with her to support their children and adolescents, reflecting not only her clinical skill, but the deep trust she builds from the very first session.
Sharon brings over eight years of experience working with children and youth navigating emotional, behavioural, academic, and relational challenges. Her therapeutic style is calm, warm, and focused. These are qualities that help even the most hesitant or withdrawn young clients feel at ease. She specializes in supporting clients presenting with anxiety, depression, ADHD, ASD, OCD, and interpersonal difficulties. Parents frequently describe Sharon as compassionate, attuned, and deeply insightful. Her clients tend to leave sessions feeling more confident, emotionally attuned, and equipped with practical strategies for everyday life.
Sharon completed her Bachelor of Science in Psychology and her Diploma in Child Studies at the University of Toronto; her Master of Psychology at Adler Graduate Professional School; and is currently completing a Doctor of Education (EdD) in Counselling Psychology at the University of Toronto/OISE. Her training spans both clinical and school psychology, positioning her to understand the full spectrum of a child’s inner and academic world.
Prior to joining TPSRC, Sharon’s supervised work contexts included private practice, social service agencies, and school settings such as the Toronto French School (TFS) and the Toronto District School Board (TDSB). She has also provided consultation to parents, teachers, and school support teams, offering tailored strategies to advance student well-being and academic success.
At TPSRC, Sharon’s supervised practice primarily involves providing therapy to children and teens. She is also a member of TPSRC’s reunification therapy team, where she supports families navigating complex parent-child dynamics and rebuilding trust in high-conflict situations. Her approach integrates cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), cognitive-behavioural play therapy, interpersonal psychotherapy, mindfulness-based approaches, and solution-focused therapy. She is sensitive to issues of diversity and is known for creating a secure therapeutic alliance rooted in respect, understanding, and empowerment.
Sharon’s clinical work is supervised by Registered Psychologist, Ghia Townsend, MSc. C. Psych. PsyD, while she completes her supervised practice toward registration as a Psychological Associate with the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario (CPBAO).
