Understanding Clinical Assessments
A clinical psychological assessment explores the factors influencing a person’s emotional, behavioural, and personality functioning. It can clarify whether difficulties reflect a diagnosable condition such as anxiety, depression, trauma, substance use, or a personality-related concern, or whether they arise from other situational or developmental factors.
At TPSRC, we provide clinical assessments for children, adolescents, and adults. Our goal is to understand the individual’s unique presentation, identify contributing factors, and develop evidence-based recommendations that support meaningful change. A clinical assessment can also assist physicians, lawyers, educators, or employers in developing appropriate supports and accommodations.
Our Integrated Approach
Every assessment at TPSRC follows a structured, evidence-based process designed to move from understanding to action. We don’t stop at identifying the problem — we focus on translating results into solutions.
Information gathered during the assessment is synthesized into practical recommendations and, where appropriate, an individualized therapy treatment plan. This ensures that findings extend beyond diagnosis to guide effective intervention, accommodation, and long-term support.
Our psychologists and psychological associates, along with their team, use current scientific research to ensure that recommendations reflect best practices. From the first meeting onward, the process is collaborative, compassionate, and client-centred.
Who Conducts the Assessment
All assessments are completed by registered psychologists and psychological associates and their team, who specialize in diagnostic evaluations including clinical, personality, and mental health assessments. Each professional contributes their expertise to ensure that the results are accurate, comprehensive, and clinically sound.
The Assessment Process
Consultation
Every assessment begins with a consultation appointment. The consultation fee is $300, paid separately before the appointment. During this meeting, we review your goals, background, and presenting concerns to confirm that a clinical assessment is the most appropriate next step. If you decide to proceed within 14 days of the consultation, the fee is applied toward the total assessment cost.
Structured Interviews and Feedback
Prior to concluding the consultation, the psychologist will schedule:
- A structured background history interview,
- A structured clinical interview, and
- A final feedback session.
These appointments can be completed virtually. During the feedback session, the psychologist reviews the results, explains the findings, and discusses the recommendations. You will also receive a detailed written report summarizing the assessment results, interpretations, and recommendations. The report can be shared at your discretion with your healthcare provider, workplace, school, or other relevant parties.
The process usually involves four to six hours of assessment activity and is completed over approximately six weeks.
Assessment Cost
- Promotional rate: $2,000 — paid in full on the day of, or within one week of, the consultation
- Regular rate: $2,500 — half paid after intake, half at least 14 days before feedback
- Bi-weekly plan: $500 deposit after consultation, followed by $250 bi-weekly payments (requires proof of income, three recent payslips, a utility bill dated within one month, a driver’s licence, and direct withdrawal authorization)
Price Matching
As part of our Affordable Healthcare Initiative, TPSRC will match the cost of a psychological assessment of the same investigative scope offered by another private psychology clinic in the Greater Toronto Area. To qualify, clients must provide a verifiable insurance estimate or written quote on the clinic’s official letterhead, dated within one week of scheduling the consultation with TPSRC.
