Jancy King psychologist

Jancy King, M.Ed., C. Psych. Assoc.

My name is Jancy King. I am the Director of Toronto Psychological Services, a private psychology clinic in west Toronto and a member of the College of Psychologists of Ontario (CPO) in good standing.

Over the years many people have asked me why I entered the field of psychology. Until recently, I gave the same answers as most people in my profession; I like to help people, human behaviour fascinates me and I want to contribute to my community in a meaningful way. Of course, all that is true; but, more recently I began to explore more personal reasons for my career choice, particularly the diversity in my work.

I’ve come to understand that a love of meaningful communication is the basis for my entry into the field of psychology. As long as I can remember I’ve wanted to be understood, to be truly ‘known’, to communicate with others so they understand my experiences. At the same time, I have a strong desire to understand others, their thoughts, feelings and behaviours, in order to enrich my own life, my path and hopefully, their path. At an early age, I recognized that same need in other people ~ the
human desire to communicate meaningfully on many different levels.

Whether I am completing a psychological assessment, providing counselling or play therapy, communication is at the heart of my work ~ the common denominator. I never see myself as the ‘changer’ but rather someone who facilitates change. I am always aware that I don’t know how to live life any better than anyone else but instead utilize a highly specialized set of professional skills to help people meet their goals. Integrity, honesty, confidentiality and fundamental principles provide the essential foundation for ethical work and values that I hold to be primary in my life and my work. At the CPO I am registered in Counselling Psychology, School Psychology and Clinical Psychology.

Clinical/Counselling Psychology:

I enjoy counselling adults, couples, adolescents and children concerning a wide range of problems in living. I have indepth training in developmental psychology and treat children/adolescents using either play therapy and/or counselling. I treat issues such as anxiety, anger management, depression, social difficulties, behaviour, anger, separation/divorce and many other issues. Reunification or reconciliation counselling is a specialized area and supports adults as they reestablish a relationship with children/teens after estrangement.

Assessment:

I complete a wide range of psychological assessments. I provide skilled educational assessments for clients of all ages. Students or those wanting to become students might seek assessment for Learning Disabilities (elementary, high school, university/college) as well as developmental delay, attention, ADHD and giftedness. Clinical assessment is limited to persons aged 2-21 years of age and could assess behaviour, ASD (Autism/Aspergers), MVA and clinical issues such as anxiety, depression or social competence.

If you would like to work with me, please call our offices and make an appointment. My services, like that of all TPS staff, may be covered all, or in part, by your workplace benefits. Please watch my page for new articles/postings.
